Emily Anderson was born in Moline, Illinois and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa by her parents, Mike and Jackie Peebler of Robins. She has one younger brother, Matthew, who lives with his wife and son in Cedar Rapids. Emily is a graduate of Cedar Rapids Xavier High School. During high school, Emily was hired by John Riccolo, David Baker (now an Iowa Supreme Court Justice), and Tim Semelroth, to work for the firm as an intern. In high school Emily also competed on the Xavier mock trial team (coached by Tim).
Emily attended both college and law school at Drake University in Des Moines. In law school, Emily met her future husband, Dan, on the moot court team. Emily helped the moot court team qualify for the National Moot Court Competition in New York City two years in a row, once placing third in the nation. Emily also served on the Moot Court Board as vice president and was an editor on the Drake Law Review.
During her third year of law school, Emily received the Jeffrey and Elizabeth Goodman Distinguished Advocate award given by the Drake Law School faculty to one, third year law student who demonstrates excellence and proficiency in client representation and advocacy. Emily also received the Rodney L. Hudson Advocacy Award for her exceptional performance on the moot-court team at Drake Law School.
Immediately following law school, Emily served as a law clerk to Justice David Wiggins of the Iowa Supreme Court. After Emily completed her clerkship, Emily was hired at Riccolo & Semelroth, P.C. Emily has focused her practice on representing injured Iowans and their families against insurance corporations.
Emily currently serves in the Young Lawyer’s Division of the Iowa State Bar Association. Through the Young Lawyer’s Division, she is a co-chair of both the Professional Development Committee and the Mock Trial Committees.
Emily enjoys coaching high school mock trial, boating and doing home improvement projects with her husband.
